US citizen boosts SIerra Leone’s fight against Ebola
An American national Danielle Detrude, mentor and fundraiser for Social Workers Sierra Leone, has donated 600 masks towards efforts in controlling the spread of the deadly virus across the country.
The masks will be distributed by Social Workers Sierra Leone during their national campaigns.
According to the founder of Social Workers Sierra Leone, Hassan Koroma, the gesture by the American illustrates the relationship that exists between her and this organization.

In his statement, “Danielle Detrude is truly a gift to Sierra Leone”, said Mr. Koroma. He continued that since they met in 2013 when Danielle came to Freetown on an internship trip under the Society for Women and Aids in Africa Sierra Leone (SWAASL) at the Africel America corner library just few days before she left for the United States.
Koroma further explains: According to Koroma the young lady has a strong passion to help humanity if only she get the support needed she could do more. He furthered that their effort and pro-activeness in challenging social issues facing young people and the communities win her humanitarian heart to work with the group to help us achieve our goals.
However, he said the out brake of the disease in the neighboring countries of Guinea and Liberia, prepared her to send 600 masks directly to the group in readiness to prevent the virus and eventually came at a time when the masks are needed most.
Mr. Dauada Sabally, member of SWSL, complements the effort of the American and express deep satisfaction over the items. “We are going to use this item for the intended purposes like distributing them in communities that are socially deprived while going around our campaigns” says Sabally.
The Group made it clear that they hope concerned bodies will open doors for them especially to access logistics to enable them Embark on massive sensitization campaigns to make people understand more about the virus and how to prevent it.
Interestingly, Danielle is a student in Coastal Carolina University (USA) studying public health and offered herself as a volunteer for Social Workers Sierra Leone raising funds and technical support as well.
The masks were delivered by a Sierra Leonean professor in the University Dr. Fredanna M’kormack .
