SLPPNA message of condolence on the death of former President of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabba
Philadelphia, March 17, 2014. The members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party in North America (SLPPNA) convey their heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends of former President, Dr. Alhaji Ahmad Tejan- Kabbah and the people of Sierra Leone on his passing away on March 13th, 2014. At this time of mourning and grief, SLPPNA members, with profound sorrow, express their solidarity with our compatriots and pray that the Almighty Allah grant us courage and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
We remain indebted to President Tejan-Kabbah for his steadfastness and commitment in negotiating an end to a decade-long war in 2002, disarming combatants, resettling and rehabilitating his compatriots displaced by war and insecurity, bolstering the peace we enjoy as a nation, building effective governance institutions (including NASSIT, NRA, NEC, the ACC), establishing the rule of law and constitutionality (including local governance reforms and the retraining and reorganization of the security forces as well as promoting the free press), initiating nationwide infrastructural reconstruction ( of roads, schools, hospitals, the Bumbuna Dam etc.), fostering free education for the girl child, and nurturing a peaceful democratic transition through elections in 2007.
As we grieve and recount the very rich legacy of our Leader and former President, Ahmad Tejan-Kabbah, we implore his successors to maintain kindred commitment to the needs of our compatriots and the country in all areas of education, employment, effective governance, rule of law, and healthcare. The history of our nation shall always emblazon President Kabbah’s love of country, sense of duty, and service to nation. We mourn his passing and rejoice in his achievements. Until then, Adieu His Excellency, Alhaji Dr Ahmad Tejan Kabbah till we meet again.
