Statistics Sierra Leone sends out warning

President of the Staff Welfare Association, Edward Kargbo, in a Press Conference at Statistic Sierra Leone Headquarters, Tower Hill;  AJ Momoh Street in Freetown, has told Journalists that certain people who call themselves ‘concerned staff’, will be in trouble if they do not stop what he referred to their malicious campaign against the Institution.

The president was addressing journalists yesterday in reaction to a recent letter purported to have been written by ‘Concerned Staff’ and published by various media houses. Edward Kargbo stated that as professional staff, their loyalty lies on the Institution and not to a particular individual. He said if such is coming from staff within the Institution, it is unprofessional and that if there is a problem in the Institution it should be settled amicably and professionally.

“For them to go as far as trying to convince DFID that the present leadership is weak, inept is an anathema and uncalled for”’ Edward Kargbo asserted.

He said as a professionals they should be ready to work with any head as the onus rests on government to appoint when it choose as such a making is above them a staff.

Abu Bakarr Secretary General of the Staff welfare association stated that the letter may have come from outsiders because there is no group like “concerned staff” at SSL.

In an open letter to president Ernest Bai Koroma by Statistics Sierra Leone Council and Management, concerns were raised that the reign of the suspended Statistician General was marred by animosity, misappropriation of funds, nepotism and calling for a decisive position as an effort to correct the institutional disturbance created by what they considered as the worst administrator on the history of SSL.

The management letter is calling on president Koroma to know that the position of staff remains solid and it should not be undermined by any one.
