Choithram Rescues Destitute Children

The Choithram Scholarship fund which is in honor of the late Pa. Choithram Pagarani, early this week offered the sum of Le48, 000, 00 in support of 343 destitute children in the country.

Chief Financial controller of Choithram Group in Freetown, Harish Agnani, presenting the cheque to the chairperson of the Choithram Scholarship Fund, Dr. Mrs. Talabi Aisie Lucan at the conference room at Rawdon Street yesterday March 16 2010, said that the donation which is an annual event started its scholarship scheme since 1967 as charity to help the less privileged.

He disclosed that last year the Choithram scholarship fund offered 41 million Leones and has decided to increase it to 48 million Leones this year because of the high demand of parents who cannot meet the educational support of their children.

The 343 children will benefit from the gesture, adding that this is in line with Governments’ policy to improve the standard of education and the number of children going to school.

Chairperson of the Choithram scholarship Fund, Dr. Talabi Aisie Lucan, receiving the cheque on behalf of the destitute children, thanked the Choithram International Foundation for donating such an amount to support destitute children in Sierra Leone more so as it has increased to 48 million Leones.

Dr. Lucan assured that the scholarship would be distributed evenly to the deserving poor children throughout the country.

She disclosed how the public can benefit from the scholarship as they do it transparently by giving out application forms that can be filled by interested poor people. The Grants will be handed over to the beneficiaries on 18 and 19 March 2010 at a ceremony
