President Koroma, after 2012, should be with a satisfied mind that with his contribution to Sierra Leone’s development agenda, he should have a peaceful rest and retirement
President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is currently considered by Global Civil Societies and Western Democracies as the First Toughest Political Leader in Africa and Asia who has ever Fully Supported a Thorough Mechanism of Anti Corruption Commission by allowing its Management to Operate Independently without Political Interference or Intimidation from all Political division including State house, Office of the Vice President and the Ministry of the Interior that Supposedly Supervises the ACC.
Thoughtful Sierra Leoneans should try to stay away from developing mixed ill-feeling concerning the ability of President E.B. Koroma to lead our suffering nation. Indeed, President Koroma is a transformational leader who has all the necessary characteristics to lead Sierra Leone politicians. According to Africa-Asia Political archives in world history, President Koroma is the first president and head of state that emerged from Africa and Asia and fully supported an Anti-Corruption Commission without using his powers to suppress the commission for selfish gains. Like any other ACC in the world, the Anti Corruption commission in Sierra Leone is a government established mechanism intended to hunt mismanagement, misappropriation, embezzlement, fraudulent conversion, false pretences, fraud and forgery, and related corrupt administrative practices. Unlike many heads of state and presidents in Sierra Leone who preceded President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, His Excellency President Koroma has never attempted to go against the findings and suggestions of the ACC. Moreover, he has never and will never suppress the functions of the ACC by dictating to it with the notion of freeing his cohorts if found culpable. In the past, political leaders have always meddled with the ACC whenever they intend to free their political culprits. President Koroma has set a spotless political trace in dealing with the ACC, such that, looking at the past records of late or former presidents in Sierra Leone will unearth that political leaders in the past had miserably failed to do what President Koroma has done and is doing in relation to the judicial purification of the ACC, and that no future president will ever attempt to employ the chiming qualitative behavior of captivating president such as Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
I am not saying that the fired Minister of Fisheries, Haja Afsatu Kabba is guilty of the ACC charges against her. Rather, I’m loaded to pronounce that the opposition never thought Haja Afsatu Kabba was going to face justice based on the stereo-type notion that Haja Afsatu Kabba was and is still the political friend of the President. Had President Koroma acted like some of presidents who preceded him by being politically frivolous, carefree and laconic, sure enough he would have not allowed some of his ministers including Haja Afsatu Kabba to face corruption charges. The whole political world, the international business community, local political leaders in Sierra Leone, political enthusiasts in the Diaspora and the electorate will now agree with frank political commentators that His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is demonstrating the best transformational leadership role that African and Asian leaders ought to emulate in combating administrative corruptions. President Koroma provided all the necessary financial support for the Anti Corruption Committee and continues to allow it to be operating independently without political interference from any management including the state house, the office of the vice president and the ministry of the Interior, which simplified and empowered the ACC to be operating with bursting confidence. Finally, Haja Afsatu Kabba is in the hands of the ACC, which opportunity the ACC had long been pursuing. The general public learned about Haja Afsatu Kabba’s ACC charges from President Koroma’s press release, which outlined that the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Haja Afsatu Kabba was relieved from her ministerial functions as the result of ACC court charges. The Permanent secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Mr. Paul Sandi was also charged to court on Monday March 15, 2010 with various corruption charges by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to a press release from state house, Haja Afsatu Kabba has been relieved of her duties as Minister by His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone as the result of corruption charges against her by the ACC, while her Permanent secretary, Mr. Paul Sandi should be interdicted with immediate effect from the Civil Service.
Furthermore, the press release from state house announced Hon. Joseph M. Koroma onetime Minister of Presidential & Public Affairs as a replacement of Haja Afsatu Kabba. As from now, Joseph M. Koroma now becomes the Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources, while Haja Jenneh Kandeh, once Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender & Children’s Affairs is re-assigned as Deputy Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources.
Besides, the press release from state house stated that Rosaline Oya Sankoh, Deputy Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources has been duly re-assigned as Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender & Children’s Affairs.
The Haja Afsatu Kabba dilemma and ACC controversy has been littering suspicions on lack of integrity based on leaks suspected to be made by a senior ACC employee, which allegations has never been acknowledged or denied by the ACC. Every public or private office or administration is expected to uphold transparency and accountable similar to the one practiced by President Koroma and his State House personnel. Therefore, no institution should be allowed to be playing the hide and seek childish game in the midst of an administration that is promoting justice for all, accountability, transparency and respectability for human dignity. At this crucial political turn-around, we hope that the ACC will stay away from biasness and corruptive practices, while focusing on how to accomplish its objectives as emphasized and demonstrated by His Excellency; Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in his functions. If the ACC decides on being corrupt itself, who will mandate its management to clean-up its mess, if any? In fact, it will be very disheartening to have a corrupt or politically bias ACC, while our head of state is doing his best to promote the administrative and socioeconomic affairs of the ACC.
Meanwhile, it’s worthy to congratulate President Koroma on his enduring gait towards demonstrating to the world how straightforward his political leadership is functioning to eliminate corruption, and how necessary is it for other leaders in Asia and Africa to emulate in an attempt to end political corruptions.
