Final Call for Durban FilmMart 2014 Project Submissions – Closes 18 February 2014
The 5th edition of the Durban FilmMart’s deadline for film project submissions is fast approaching and filmmakers who have not yet submitted their projects are urged to act fast or miss out on this exciting initiative.
The Durban FilmMart – a partnership between the Durban Film Office and The Durban International Film Festival, with principal funding from the city of Durban – is a co-production and finance market aimed at developing and assisting emerging African filmmakers. Now approaching its five-year milestone, the Durban FilmMart takes place in Durban from 18-21 July 2014, during the 35th edition of the Durban International Film Festival (17-27 July 2014).
The call for submission of feature-length fiction, documentary and animation films, which opened on 25th October 2013, will now close on the 18th February 2014.
The four-day affair that serves as a meeting place for national and international film producers, buyers, financiers, sales agents, funders and other film professionals, promises a programme that is jam-packed with informative workshops, engaging discussions and exciting interactive opportunities.
“The Durban FilmMart is a gateway to exciting experiences that hold no bounds to the success you can achieve as an African filmmaker. Don’t miss out on your window of opportunity, this is your chance to make your mark,” says Durban Film Office Head Toni Monty. This year, we will select 20 projects to participate in the 2014 Finance Forum.
Ten fiction projects and ten documentary projects will be selected for one-on-one meetings with potential investors and co-producers in the Finance Forum. The documentary projects will also be pitched to a panel of commissioning editors and funders in the DOC Circle Pitching Forum.
The final day of the Durban FilmMart includes the closing night dinner which alongside partners and sponsors, will award prizes in various categories to selected participants. Awards include prize-money towards the funding and development of the film project as well as sponsorship grants to attend various international film festivals and their respective film markets across the globe.
“This is a brilliant opportunity to not only develop your film project and cultivate your filmmaking skills, but also to build your global network and learn from established film professionals.” added Monty.
