Labour Congress President damns Karrow Kamara

The President of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress (SLLC), Mr. Mohamed Deen Goor, has condemned the highhanded action of the Commander of Freetown East, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Alfred Karrow Kamara, for closing down the office of the President of the Sierra Leone Dock Workers Union, Mr. Abdul Hamid Kanasieu, just over two weeks ago.

He described the action of CSP Karrow Kamara as totally uncalled and illegal as he was not carrying out an order from a Court but simply using Police power to bully the Union President.

He alleged that one of the contestants for the Presidency of the Union, Mr. Kekura Kargbo has promised CSP Karrow Kamara the sum of twenty million Leones (Le 20m) if he helped him to become President of the Union.

Mr. Goor stressed that he decided to postpone the said Union elections for obvious reasons.

He highlighted among other things that he was very disappointed to hear that CSP Karrow Kamara said that he will not be able to provide security for the Mr. Kanasieu when the demonstration on that day was not that much violent.

He emphasized that they are in support of Mr. Kanasieu but the action and utterances of CSP Karrow Kamara were entirely wrong and he must be brought to book for them.

He opined that Mr. Kekura Kargbo does not have any business to do with the Dock Workers Union as he is no longer a member of the Union, which he said makes him  how he could contest the election next year.

He called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Francis Alieu Munu, to prevail on CSP Karrow Kamara to open the office of President Abdul Hamid Kanasieu as the Local Unit Commander, Superintendent Sannie Sesay and the Operations Officer of ‘B’ Divisional Headquarters are ready to provide security for the Union.

He maintained that on the day of the said strike action CSP Karrow Kamara told the striking labourers that he has the capacity to contain them if they continue to be rude and arrogant he therefore saw no reason for him to have closed the office.
