Launching the project managing director Rokel Commercial Bank, Victor Keith Cole, gave a brief background of the church.  He said the celebration is to commemorate the first intervention of the Methodist Mission in England when the first Missionary in the person of Rev. George Warren and three school teachers- Jonathan Raymore, John Healey and Thomas Hirst arrived in Freetown to continue evangelism work with the Christians who were Methodist in Sierra Leone.  This church he said was built on the praying area of Methodist in Sierra Leone.

He maintained that there was no concrete building, but by the zealousness of our forefathers this building was built in the early Nineteenth Century for which we do not have a definite date but the date on the Bell of the church which was manufactured in 1828 is a true guide that the church was built in the Nineteenth Century.

Today he went we wish to remember all those Christian Methodists before us who have on their own ensured we have this church. The reformation of the church will started on the 18th November, 2013, two hundred and two years and six days after George Warren arrived in Freetown and died a couple of weeks after having been attached by yellow fever.

This effort he maintained is about the fourth significant stride by the Congregation of this society and by the help from relatives and well wishers. As we start we do not propose to stop holding our church services in the building but will continue to do so and it is hoped you who are present will continue to support us.

Mr. Cole revealed that the journey seems very distant this time but with our stern belief in God we shall overcome.

He further highlighted that the first effort is to extend the Vestry to make provision for a Minister’s Vestry.

The second was to tile the Lower Hall or basement.

The third was the most recent one to change the floor, which was wooden to a concrete structure and do a better gallery to accommodate more worshippers.

The fourth considers the Remodelling of the church to give it a new look with improved floor area to accommodate more worshippers. We believe that at the completion of this project this church will be able to improve its sitting place by between one hundred and one hundred and fifty percent and would the estimated cost for the completion of the project is in the tune of One Billion Five Hundred Million Leones. The unveiling of the remodelled structure was done by His Worship the Mayor, Franklyn Bababode Gibson.
