NaCAL Sierra Leone on Drugs-Free Sensitization
National Campaign Against Lawlessness-Sierra Leone (NaCAL-Sierra Leone) has taken the lead in a nationwide drug-free society campaign with the launch of a two-day sensitization workshop at a popular ghetto known as FM in Portee, East of Freetown on the theme ‘drug- free Sierra Leone’.
Addressing youths and children below 18 years, the Executive Director of NaCAL-Sierra Leone, Mr. Ibrahim Kamara informed that NaCAL-Sierra Leone is a non-profit making civil society movement established to provide the desired civic education that will prepare the minds and hearts of every citizen in Sierra Leone to be law abiding with, the firm belief that Peace Unity and Development can never be achieved in a lawless state.
Mr. Kamara disclosed that NaCAL- Sierra Leone has done a lot in the areas of community health and peace education, women and children’s rights, drug abuse and the rule of Law.
At present, Mr. Kamara went on, NaCAL- Sierra Leone is engaged in drug-free, society awareness raising campaign without a single cent or support either from the Government or donor agencies adding that his entire work is merely funded from individual contributions within the organization. Mr. Kamara admonished the youths that drug abuse is one serious recipe for the overt display of lawlessness and indiscipline in Sierra Leone.
He stressed that youths of this modern times should now see themselves as agents of change, and must prepare their minds and be ready to embrace the agenda for prosperity of President Koroma.
In his contribution, the Deputy National coordinator of NaCAL- Sierra Leone, Mr. Harold H. Kamara advised the youths and children to be law abiding and totally avoid the use of drugs which is largely responsible for the deplorable status of mental reasoning and health. “President Ernest Bai Koroma has said that he will service and dedicate his second term of office to the youths of this country, you must join the clarion call of the Government to achieve the Agenda for prosperity”, Harold observed.
In her response, one of the youths, Mariatu Conteh commended NaCAL-Sierra Leone for their laudable venture, citing that they have now realized that drug abuse is responsible for their backwardness. Ms. Conteh maintained that the level of lawlessness and indiscipline and the very many number of youths and children in ghettos and streets is as a result of drug abuse. She encouraged NaCAL-Sierra Leone to continue their sensitization bringing on board their colleagues from other ghettos and those in the street.
