RTA takes Road Safety Campaign to Churches
The Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA), in collaboration with the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone, has intensified its Road Safety campaign in churches during Sunday services which commenced on 1st September, 2013 in seven churches within the Freetown municipality.
The campaign was led by the Director of Safety and Enforcement, SLRTA, Bouba Amara who stated that the sensitization would continue nationwide throughout the year.
He further outlined the mandate of SLRTA as implementing statutory instruments on road safety, UN Decade of Action on Road Safety, dangers of right-hand drive vehicles and strategies to strengthen the road safety campaign adding, “road safety is everybody’s concern as any loss of life in road crashes is precious due to the fact that between 80 to 90% of the populace use the road.” Bouba Amara also solicited the support of the Christian community to enhance the road safety campaign to minimize road crashes that have left numerous people incapacitated while others have lost their lives and families devastated.
The churches visited past Sunday included Christ Church; Centenary Tabernacle; Bethel; St. Peters Healing; Loko Baptist; King Memorial and Baptist. The outreach program continues on the first and third Sundays of every month.
