As new office opens at quay, clearing agencies engage SLRTA
Association of Clearing and Forwarding 2012, met top officials of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA) following a newly operational office opened by the latter at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay for inspection of all vehicles that are imported into the country through the port.
The meeting which was held at SLRTA headquarters attracted the company secretary, Finance Manager, Avelit Manager and the Director of Transport together with ACFA President, Vice President, secretary General and the Association Coordinator and the discussions were centered around the way forward on the operation of the newly established RTA office.
Abdul Karim Bangura, president ACFA unfolded that the purposed meet the RTA stakeholders is to get an insight of the establishment of RTA office and as to the process and procedures fit in the already established systems and processes involving the clearing of vehicles through the Freetown Port, in a bid to enhance easy and quick service delivery.
In his response the financial manager of the Authority Alpha Gbasay informed that the RTA office at Quay will not disturb the daily running of the port as the office is set up to conduct inspection and Issue Temporal tags so that owners will be able to use their vehicles before the actual licenses are issued. Also the RTA office will maintain relevant documents such custom ASYCUDA and the licenses slip requests so that temporal vehicle registration (TVR) will be convene.
In addition, the Audit manager RTA Emmanuel Kallon informed that the process at the Quay will be normal as the office will be at the tail end of the normal port process as soon as you vehicle owner produce relevant document the bank will be at their side to make a payment, as temporal tag will not be obtain at RTA headquarter but only at the Quay, the office will check engine number, chassis number according to categories wherein class A and B vehicles will pay Le. 150,000 while class B will pay Le. 250,000 respectively.
Soma Gomorga, RTA secretary general stressed that the office will also prevent all right hand vehicles from entering into the country after the deadline in 2014.
