Edmund Koroma must be right though
Over the years,  I have developed the  habit of trying to read most of the newspapers published daily in Freetown. I not only read the news items, but, would read nearly every thing written by columnists, and feature writers. Thus, I have learned quite a lot from them. And, I have become quite conversant with the writing styles of all the columnists; so much so that when some columnists would try to disguise themselves by writing under pen names, I could easily tell who would be masquerading. Last week, I came across a news item in the ‘We Yone’ newspaper by the Financial Secretary, Edmond Koroma’s comments  on the rehabilitation work to be shortly done on Segbwema Nixon Hospital in the Kailahun District, which he said is a priority for this APC government.  He articulated his views during a visit he recently made the hospital in Kailahun on behalf of the Minister of Finance.  We Yone newspaper reported how appalled Edmund Koroma at seeing the sheer decrepitude of the hospital, which in the pre-war years used to be one of the most equipped hospitals in the entire country, with some of the best medical doctors that can be found anywhere.
Speaking with characteristic confidence of a man at the center of advising government on what to spend on and what to spend on, Edmund Koroma gave assurances that the sorry state of the hospital will shortly be dramatically improved on by this APC government led by President Ernest Bai Koroma..
The assurances of Edmund Koroma, including the ‘Father Christmas gifts’ of new roads, etc. from President Koroma when he paid his first visit to Kailahun District last week undercuts the acidic criticisms of critics of the government that have been lampooning the government for being to regionally biased. Clearly, as far as development is concerned, this APC government is one of the most egalitarian governments ever in Sierra Leone.
What Edmund Koroma said about the Nixon Memorial Hospital in Segbwema is an ‘intention’ to act; and he should be realize that the President Koroma APC government is radically different from the President Tejan Kabba SLPP government. In the President Koroma government, any intention publicly spoken, must be backed with determined action. Since we can assume that Edmund Koroma would not dare make such promises as a high level government official if he were not certain that there would be speedy action, I would suggest that the people in Kailahun should bring out their kaylay and sebure and start rejoicing. For action is sure to start shortly as regards the rehabilitation of the hospital.
