Water is life says Kolifa Kamara

Engineer and Station Manager of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWCO), Mr. Alimany Kolifa Kamara, has openly taken the bull by its horn by setting up a robust security team in Kenema.  The team will be charged with the responsibility of educating the community on the protection of the area of Kamboi Hills.

Kamara, addressing pressmen at his Maxwell Khobe Street, office in Kenema, advised people to stop cutting trees, mining gold, or diamonds, and other artificial activities that will hinder the water table, or the station reservoirs, which is the only source of getting water for the people.  He said the road construction is seriously hindering the water supply by damaging the water pipes and stated that SALCOST and ISU damaged many pipes and the SLRA have not made any move in terms of replacing the damaged pipes.

Speaking in the area of the three town’s water supply project, he said the project has three components and not three projects.  He said the first component is the software which includes sanitation; another component is the soft ware component of institutional and capacity development programme; and the third component is the reconstruction of the water supply system of the three towns of Bo, Kenema and Makeni.  “The design has been completed and likely before the end of this year the construction will start”, Mr. Kamara said.  He called the attention of the Resident Minister-East, the Mayor, the senior district officer, the PS, the ONS, the police, the health ministry, the civil society body, the media, the traditional authorities, the district council and other authorities to all come onboard and protect the Kamboi Hills and help them and the government provide enough pure drinking water for Kenema and its environs. He ended by pleading to everybody to protect Kamboi Hills.
