Mercury International gives SWASAL Le 15.6 M to furnish and equip Secretariat

The Chairman of Mercury International (SL) Limited Mr. Samir Hassanyeh on Friday 8th February 2013 at his Rawdon Street Office in Freetown, presented a cheque of Le 15.6 Million to a cross section of Executive Members of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL).

Handing over the cheque to the SWASAL President Mr. Mohamed Fajah Barrie, Mr. Hassanyeh recalled how his company as the sole major sponsors of the association was approached by both the President and Secretary General regarding the refurbishing and equipping of the SWASAL Secretariat situated at the SLAJ Headquarters at 56 Campbell Street in Freetown.

“Mercury International has been in partnership with SWASAL since 2010 and we are impressed with the way the current executive has been transparent in organizing the association’s activities therefore, it is our desire to assist the association achieve its goal which is to have a standard secretariat to function fully as the only recognized national sports association,” he said.

Mr. Samir Hassanyeh wished SWASAL ‘good luck’ in their future endeavours and hoped the money would be used for the intended purpose.

Receiving the cheque, the SWASAL President Mr. Mohamed Fajah Barrie thanked the Chairman and the rest of the Board Members; the Executive Director Mr. Martin E. Michael; Management; Staff and the entire Retailers and Customers of Mercury International (SL) Limited for their remarkable support to the association over the years.

“This latest gesture, from all directions, shows clearly you people have lots of confidence in this present executive therefore, we will do our utmost best to ensure that confidence is maintained,” Barrie noted, adding: “after acquiring all the equipment we shall be calling upon especially the Board Chairman Mr Samir Hassanyeh and other senior staff of the company to officially open our secretariat.”

Giving the vote of thanks, the association’s National Secretary General Frank Magnus Ernest Cole pointed out the presentation came as no surprise. “Our dealings with Mercury International (SL) Limited for the past three years have always been in the open that is why any time we knock on their doors for help they would   respond positively,” Cole revealed.

He admonished the company not to relent in its enviable cooperate social responsibility, and prayed for increased profits this 2013.
