Minister receives hero’s welcome in Kenema

The newly reappointed Minister of State, Eastern Region, Hon. William Juana Smith (in photo) has received a hero’s welcome in the city of Kenema.

The programme which took place in the regional headquarters, Kenema, attracted hundreds of APC party loyalists drawn from Kono, Kailahun and Kenema Districts including paramount chiefs in the region.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the programme who doubles as the Provincial Secretary, east, Mr. George Banya noted that the reappointment of the resident minister by the president was not a mistake but rather a thorough decision as he is a true representative of the president in the region, adding that the reappointment of the minister was due to hard work which he exhibited during his last term in office.

In his statement, the newly appointed Ambassador to China who is former Secretary General of the ruling All People Congress (APC) party, Victor Bockarie Foh called on the people of the eastern region to put aside politic as election has long been over and focus on development.

He said he was in Kenema to convey President Koroma’s message to the people of the region if he were to appoint any any single individual for that post it will be W.J Smith because of his hard work, adding that even though he was not voted for in the Kenema district yet he love the people of Kenema and ready to bring more development to the district in the next five years.

The newly elected Chairman of the Kenema District Council Dr. Senesie Manssary said as council they are happy of reappointment of the resident minister and that they were willing and ready to work with him.

Speaking on behalf of the police, AIG east, the Local Unit Commander Kenema Division, David Sahid Koroma said the occasion marks a new day for the people of the eastern region having left their busy work to welcome the resident minister which he said demonstrates love and the inter-personal relationship between the minister and his people during his past term in office.

Delivering his keynote address, the Resident Minister, Hon. William Juana Smith thanked the organizers of the ceremony and expressed his happiness for his reappointment by President Ernest Bai Koroma to serve a second term in office which he noted was not done out of favoritism but due to hard work.

Hon. William Juana Smith reiterated his good rapport with people in the region including his positive interaction with parliamentarians from the region and his colleague ministers.

On development issues, the minister assured the people of Kenema that the president will seriously focus on roads construction in the region including other development activities.

He called on his people to put politics aside focus on development for posterity.

Highlights of the welcoming ceremony included a march-pass of party supporters, starting from Small Bo Chiefdom in Blama to Kenema city.
