Congratulations Sierra Leoneans!

The Attitudinal and Behavioural Change (ABC) Secretariat has been keenly monitoring various political events in the country as they unfold ahead of the November polls.

The Secretariat observes that the political leaders and their supporters successfully went through their various nominations and post-nomination rallies in a peaceful manner.

Throngs and throngs of supporters stormed the streets of Freetown and other parts of the country with no threat to the peace.

Official campaigns have also started in the country and the campaigns being held so far are fully in compliance with civilized democracy.

The fact that the two major political parties in the country – All People’s Congress (APC) party and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) – are actually serving as role models for peaceful campaigns and rallies, is very much inspiring.

As the institution responsible for the moderation of the attitudes of Sierra Leoneans, we feel heartened over the manner in which the citizens have so far conducted themselves ahead of the November 17 polls.

At this juncture, we congratulate the politicians and their supporters for putting up the attitudes that befit Sierra Leone at a crucial time like this. It is good to note that Sierra Leoneans are imbibing positive attitudes.

The must to maintain the current spirit of unity in diversity, respect for divergent views, love, peace and tranquility before, during, and after the November polls cannot be overemphasized.

As we go into the elections, we must realize that Sierra Leone is the only place we can call home. Therefore, we should allow these elections to come, go, and leave us all in one piece.

Elections are meant to elect our political leaders, and should not be seen as a do or die battle that should divide us.

Sierra Leoneans should stay positive in whatever they do; they must remain tolerant, law abiding, and peaceful.

We will continue to monitor the process and shall be coming out with statements as and when necessary.
