Acting Mayor Joins the Contest

The Acting Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, Alhaji Gibril I B Kanu (in photo) has declared his intention to run for the position of mayor in the up-coming November 17th Local Government Elections.  Making his declaration at Wallace Johnson Street Office over the past weekend, the Acting Mayor revealed his political aspiration to go a step further and contest for the position of the Mayor of Freetown which decision, according to Kanu, was borne out of his passion to serve the people.

Mr. Kanu disclosed his intention to aspire for the position of mayor soon after his former boss Herbert George-Williams was convicted by the High Court on a two count charge of corruption related offences.

The Acting Mayor said he came into office after he was voted for by the people of Ward (362) and while serving as Councilor he was able to attain various prominent positions in the Council including his current service in the capacity of Mayor. He maintained that he is a protégé of decency which he inherited from his family adding that his few months in office has recorded effective and quality management with meager resources, citing among a host of others the Reconstruction of the Freetown City Hall as a classical example.

Mr. Gibril Kanu maintained that he is aware of the negative and uncouth messages being circulated about him by rumor-mongers and pointed out that “my detractors are inspiring me to be resilient and to demonstrate to the people of this country what I can offer.”

He stated that if he is voted into office he will continue to deliver quality management to add to the one he is already giving to the Council and the country at large.
