Finance Ministry ends meeting on EU’s funding

The National Authorizing Office Thursday 12th ended round table discussions on MDA’s Initiative in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance Conference.

The conference, which attracted development partners and Government functionaries focused on the discussion of a concept paper on health related issues to enable Sierra Leone gain access to proposed funding provided by the European Union to African Caribbean Countries in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

The head of delegation, Jean Pierre Reymondet-Commoy (in photo) said EU partners with developed and under developed countries in the provision of funds to targeted MDA’s that capably able to attain the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 at both national and global levels.

The Minister of Finance, Samura Kamara who also doubles as chairman said the concept paper focuses on MDA 4 and 5 which include Improving Maternal Health and the Reduction of child Mortality in the country, adding that, the health sector has done tremendously especially the introduction of the free health care.

The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Zainab Bangura said though the recent report on the health status has shown that the ministry has made significant progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goal, her Ministry faces the challenges on issues of the upgrading and sustenance of health related happenings.

She thanked the EU for their preparedness in supporting them achieved MDG 4 and 5 with a proposed one billion Euros in the enhancement of quality and affordable health service delivery in the country.
