President Koroma sets murderers free

Convicts awaiting the death penalty enjoyed a Presidential pardon on Independence Day April 27th, 2011.

Ritual murderers Michael Josiah and Mustapha Bojon have had their names on the list of persons granted Presidential mercy.

The two were convicted at the high court of Sierra Leone for ritually pioneering the murder of one George Squire formerly of Ngalahun Village in the Bo district.

Michael, Mustapha and four others caught the deceased as he made his way to the bushes around Ngalahun Village to tap palm wine.

His hands, penis and other parts were removed. And his corpse was later conveyed to a nearby female society bush and abandoned.

Findings have it that the perpetrators had used charm to overcome the deceased before killing him.

It is revealed that the deceased was made speechless, butchered and parts taken from him for ritual purposes.

The police in Bo arrested Michael, Mustapha and four others owing to revelation from an old woman, who was by the alleged female cultural bush and saw all that happened.

Unconfirmed sources articulate that the inclusion of the names of hard core murderers (Michael and Mustapha) came due to a lady (daughter of Michael), who on countless occasions paid money to secure the release of her father.

Questions as to criteria used by the office of the President in granting pardon to convicted criminals have been raised by concerned citizens.

It has been told to this press that the selection of names for Presidential pardon is done not by the office of the President but handful of Prison officials.

Credible information states that most, who now enjoys Presidential pardon, bribed Prison officials or politicians.

A source in Bo has told this press that indigenes of Ngalahun Village and it surroundings are unhappy over the release of Michael and Mustapha by President Koroma.
