The Rural Education Committee (REC) in Tombo Town has had one of Sierra Leone’s leading mobile companies agreeing to render support  to school pupils at the named town.

The Bharti Foundation has adopted five schools in India and thought it should import such a project in Sierra Leone.

The REC school in Tombo was rehabilitated, furnished and equipped with educational material as part of the company’s commitment in enrichment of quality education for Sierra Leonean children.

At the ceremony this past Tuesday, Airtel’s Managing Director, RVS Bhullar said the adoption project is purposely set up to reach out to the underprivileged and vulnerable children of society.

He whispered also that the embracing of the REC school in Tombo Town has shaped Airtel’s commitment to issues interpreting corporate social responsibility.

He said the adoption project is to help increase the learning capacity of school going children to enable them to become the foundations and cornerstones of an approaching generation.

He admitted his company faces challenges on issues sign posting national development.

He stated however that REC Tombo is sure to benefit from technological, effective and efficient learning.

He encouraged the stakeholders and school authorities to make good use of the facilities provided for the school.

In his path, the Public Affairs Manager Airtel, June Rose Johnson said her company has visited over ten schools, but REC Tombo is being used as the pilot.

The school operates on a two shift with a population of about a thousand and three pupils.

She disclosed to residents of Tombo that some staff of Airtel have volunteered to sponsor the less privileged pupils of the school.

Four scholarships were offered to the school on behalf of Natcom.

The school building was commissioned by Honorable Chernor Bah.
