The ACC must come clean

The amazement over disclosures linking facts as to the unwarranted disappearance of sensitive case files from drawers in offices of the Anti Corruption (ACC) doubtfully torments minds of Sierra Leoneans. The missing case files, our findings say, bears names of senior government officials netted by officials of the ACC to answer to allegations culpably nailing them of corruption over-indulgences.

Such, making the headlines in front pages of newspapers, questioned the conduct of officials of the ACC, under whose tight supervision were case files of the accused public officers kept.

The surprise was let loose minutes after the newly appointed ACC Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Kamara (in photo) , took up office and consciously asked for the submission of all files under ACC’s investigation.

To his amazement, few files reached him; sensitive ones could not be accounted for at all.

Files of ‘Allayjos’ top government officials, unwholesomely disappeared into thin air and could not be traced.

The ACC, we all know, was established by an act of Parliament; tagged with the responsibility to checkmate the conduct of corrupt public officials, investigate them and in turn; prosecute those found culpable of corruption and gluttony.

In retrospect, while society meditates over the covert corruption of public officials, they reflect on rebel militant’s unreasonable killings, maiming and chopping off limbs of poor and unconcerned Sierra Leoneans as to them corruption was core to the reason for the outbreak of a civil war that wreaked havoc on society.

By the aforementioned, the advent of an 11 year brutal and senseless war; a war that left a trace of a 50 year setback, came not because the late Foday Sankoh wanted it to come, but from the makings of bad politicians whose corruption and gluttony were always on an accelerated increase.

Yes, governments past and present have had a restless time, cementing and concreting a peace the UN once referred to as ‘fragile,’ permanently stable.

Of government’s efforts, the birth of the ACC formed part of the structures that determines the conduct of public offices on issues of corruption – thus a better way of bringing to the doorsteps of all, development and progress.

The information referencing the unwarranted disappearance of case files of officers being investigated by the ACC is said to have worried minds of society.

Upon this, we at Sierra Express Media singularly scrutinized allegations of the loss of sensitive case files at the ACC, and have called it a ‘conspiracy by reckless useless officials to deface strives of government in the eradication of the virus – corruption.

History, philosophers say, ‘guides conduct of society on issues of happenings, its ramifications and the effect it has to man’s decisions.’

To this, public opinion has stated uncompromisingly that government should hastily institute an investigation to post-mortem the uncalled for disappearance of case files from offices of the ACC.

Reflections must be drawn to the spontaneous resignation of the former ACC Commissioner, Abdul Tejan-Cole.

Opinions of individuals say the gentleman resigned because he was having a difficult time with manipulators who wanted persons close to them who had done wrong things to go scott free.

Put simply, the resignation of Abdul Tejan-Cole was viewed by many as ‘undue interference’ of politicians in the operation of the ACC.

To this, we respectfully ask government to get to the bottom of this and find out the names of the conspiring persons who caused the disappearance of sensitive case files.
