Zain enhances education in Junior Secondary schools
In a bid to give back to the people of Sierra Leone as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Zain through its Build Our Nation initiative targeted the Junior Secondary School (JSS) sector and donated educational items to pupils of FAWE school in Makeni and UMC Girls JSS Kono in the North and Eastern Regions, this goodwill is yet to continue in the South and East soon.
Since 2007, Zain Sierra Leone has regularly donated educational supplies to local schools all around Sierra Leone. Each year, Zain supports the progress of the education sector in Sierra Leone by providing supplies to schools in different rural areas and this year is no exception.
Through the ‘Build Our Nation” scheme, Zain donated educational materials to school pupils of FAWE school in Makeni (North) and UMC Girls JSS Kono (East). The materials included full sets of stationeries including exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers, mathematical sets, Zain branded school bags and other Zain branded goods like T-Shirts.
Mr. Kelvin E Kellie, Zain’s Head of Corporate Affairs & Communications at the draw to choose the lucky schools that will benefit said, “Most of these schools have children from poor backgrounds or some have lost their parents through war, learning materials become a big problem purchasing when school reopens. Zain therefore tries to be continuously responsive to the needs of these pupils”.
Zain’s Corporate Affairs & Communications Executive, Ms. June-Rose Johnson, in her speech at the event said these schools were determined through a ballot system and therefore the recipients should feel proud they emerged as winners. She added that the same activity is set to continue in Bo and Kenema.
These donations were done with the consent of the Schools authorities and proprietors. As such, they were all present during the donations. As a form of further motivation, high performing students from their classes were rewarded with special items like school bags and Zain memorabilia.
