‘Vuvuzelas indeed, all noise and very little else

The likes of Mohamed (One Drop) Sankoh have one basic weakness or characteristic, they create a hypothetical situation, which is usually without foundation and then develop it into the semblance of fact and then they proceed to attack the fallacy with logic and  gusto except that such logic is based on a false or nonexistent foundation. It is also usual of them to use high flowing sentences to promote their falsehood. This man has now undertaken the herculean task of defending what is either indefensible or only partially or selectively so. For the last week or so he has been busy criticizing critics of the President and in so doing the weakness that I have to which I have referred becomes clear. In the latest contribution titled “Three years of vuvuzelas One Drop assumes that SLPP is craving to be included in what critics of the APC have labeled “the Wusum cabinet” Of H E Ernest Bai Koroma. He then justifies the one-sided nature of the APC cabinet with the lame obvious that the President has to select people that he trusts completely. (Photo: Dr. Sama Banya)

The fallacy of his argument is that the SLPP have never craved to join an APC cabinet. On the contrary the leadership of the party have bent over backwards to emphasise that such consideration has never crossed their mind. All we keep asking is whether the north was the only region that voted APC particularly in the runoff Presidential election. Did the President not receive substantial votes from the South, from Kono and from the western area?

In short, was it not those votes which brought his votes  near those of Solo B before Christiana Thorpe did her thing?

One Drop mentions employment, the multiplicity of commercial banks in the country as hallmarks of the APCs economic progress. He however dodges supplementary questions to the bank affair, such as how has their presence affected the economics of bread and butter in the country?

Only yesterday I collected Le418,000 remittance at a Foreign Exchange Bureau. That was the equivalent of $100; has Mr. Robust economy Mr. One Drop any idea of that huge amount in spending power? I immediately paid Le130,000 for a bag of rice. Is that what was promised to the people of this country by the APC leadership in 2007? Would he like to walk along the main streets to see how the life of people has been transformed for the better?

By this time tomorrow we would probably have heard from the Pa himself. After all it was he who undertook to turn the country around in thirty six months. As I have already written before what we are looking for is a list of what has been achieved less the “Pull-nar-doe” projects of the previous SLPP government.

In which opposition strongholds have infrastrural developments been taken? Yes, we are to have rural electrification from solar energy, and for the umpteenth time the Goma hydro power will be increased to 6 mega watts as from April next year. It would also be amusing were African Minerals or London mining to be included in the list. We have had the Bumbuna success story drummed in our ears long enough and so I do not expect to see it included in the list as that would be too much of one thing, no matter how good it may be. Believe me and with utmost respect to my most distinguished nephew his Excellency, the list is not impressive. As we keep repeating it is all “VUVUZELAS” that is a lot of noise from the President’s men.

The African Champion would like to know whether John Benjamin would ever praise President Ernest Bai Koroma. The answer to that is simple; it is not John Benjamin’s or any other member of the opposition SLPP to sing the praises of the APC, which is to be expected. But as the newspaper is ignorant of the way of the opposition in a democracy I shall instruct him and for free in the next issue.
