For beating soldier – police vow to charge Health Minster

Information privy to this press reveals that police personnel attached at “B” Divisional Headquarters headed by no-nonsense Chief Superintendent of Police, William Fayia Sellu, has vowed to press charges against the apparently lawless Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation Mohamed Daudis Koroma (in photo) for orchestrating the merciless beating of a Navy soldier on Saturday August 7th 2010.

Police say that they have obtained a statement from service man Sheku Bao and his witness on how Minister Koroma physically assaulted a serving RSLAF for merely cautioning him to give way to other users of the road whilst driving on the usual traffic prone Kissy Road in the congested eastern part of the city. The rather arrogant minister we are made to understand took offence and unleashed terror on the soldier that led to Sheku being hospitalized after receiving public beating from the security guard of Mohamed Koroma.

When this reporter contacted Sheku at his hospital bed at 34 Government Hospital over the weekend, he expressed that had it not been for the rule of law he would have in no small measure retaliated on the Minister and his boys who saw reason to take the law into their hands.  “I am however waiting on the outcome of the investigation as police say the minister has been invited to make statement,” he said to Sierra Express Media.

A retired civil servant who was present at scene on the day of the incident and who it appears has good knowledge of the Minister’s behavior stated that this is the usual habit of Hon. Mohamed Daudis Koroma, exhibiting arrogance in public anytime he finds himself in such situations.

“I don’t blame him because he is not ministerial material since he could not express himself with words, he always prefers using his fist and physic to settle matter” the retired civil servant  stated.

An aggrieved soldier who prefers not to be named said that if it was him, he would have disarmed the Minister’s security, shoot at both of them and be ready for the consequences. Some soldiers who spoke to our reporter have resonantly vowed to teach him a lesson that he will never forget in his life time.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Health in a mobile phone conversation with the Editor of this press, Mr. Richard Bockarie, threatened to silence him for life, a threat that has been reported to the police owing to the seriousness of it, and as well as the fact that the Minister has exhibited such tendencies even in public.

Investigations continue.
