Kossoh Tong Descendants Embarks On Water Tap Renovation

Kossoh Tong Descendants have kick started massive water tap renovations in two communities, Kossoh Tong and Moa Wharf respectively in Constituency 122.

Ibrahim Thaimu Sesay said the project forms part of their commitment to help boost the two communities with safe drinking water facility.

He said before now, access to clean water was a big challenge for residents in constituency 122. He said children such as school going pupils have to spend the rest of the night searching for water, this he said brought an increased in early pregnancy amongst girls in the communities.

“We know how difficult it is for our communities to get access to safe and clean drinking water, the project is non Political and a self sponsored through our little contributions, we embarked on this project to face lift Kossoh Tong so that we will end challenges of water crisis in our community and protect our children from early and unwanted pregnancy,” he said adding that they are now renovating 15-20 water taps in all strategic areas in the two communities.

 Mrs Jannet Moseray, Mr Sulaiman Jalloh and Kadija a SSS 1 school pupil of Ahmadiyya Secondary School told this medium that they used to fetch water from unsafe sources and unprotected water wells. They said, they sometimes have to walk miles and spend the rest of the night searching for water. Kadija Kamara revealed that, they had little or no time to read their school notes and they sometimes faced sexual harassment when going out to fetch water.

“Thanks to the installation of a water facility in these communities, residents now have enough water to drink and use for other purposes, I am certain we the young school going girls are safe now from sexual harassment and can now have enough time to read our school notes”, she narrated. She thanked Kossoh Tong Descendants for their flinching support to provide them with water.

Ibrahim Thaimu Sesay, Chairman of Kossoh Tong Descendants assured that they will continue to observe the preventive measures and follow regulations of the public health emergency procedures urged by the Government. Adding that they will soon launched clean Kossoh Tong project after completing the taps renovation project.

He said they have been encouraging their community people to use face masks. Mr Sesay added that they will continue their usual hygiene practices and encourage more people to follow the COVID-19 preventive measures, specifically to practice proper hand washing, adding that to make this happen, water to be available to people.
