Crude Politics in Divided Nation
As politics in Sierra Leone continues to deteriorate with ethnicity regional and ancestral sentiment, political intolerance is order of the day.
It is crystal clear that the Sierra Leone politics has negatively impacted among countrymen as a result of the ambition of the ruling party to remain in power for ever without delivering on promises.
The political division is clearly manifested in Sierra Leone during election period, wherein people voted for candidates based on regional and tribal link. This action has left Sierra Leoneans with mixed feelings to the extent that the country has remains politically divided.
We have witnessed a situation where in Government in power engaged in chasing opposition members to render them weak so that they will no longer contest against them in future elections.
Political tension has engulfed our nation because our leaders did not believe in bringing citizens together as one people but relied in bringing down the good names of their political opponents.
Many has expressed believe that, President Julius Maada Bio should have been the best first gentle man of the state to use his military background to integrate the divided nation, but surprisingly, his regime has witnessed so many human rights abuses and misused of power.
Sierra Leone is one of the few countries in West Africa where the winner chases the loser after voting in an election, instead of concentrating in development which is the people’s desire.
The of politicians chasing themselves would be difficult to eliminate among society because opposition members always determine to take revenge after taken over the mantle of leadership.
If such situation continues, it will be a bad precedent for generation yet unborn whilst the country remains politically divided.
In that regard, citizens believed that it will be very meaningful if the country’s political actors put all their differences aside and work towards integrating the disintegrated nation.
