Sierra Leone’s Ruling Party Treat Corona Virus Session with Levity

Honorable Paul Sam for Coalition for Change (C4C) has exposed the ruling, Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Members of Parliament (MP) for leaving their seats empty while parliament was discussing Corona Virus which threatening lives in the country.

The legislator made the statement last Thursday while addressing the House of Parliament.

The C4C MP highlighted that the SLPP MPs have displayed a nonchalant attitude, noting that while other political parties including the All Peoples Congress (APC), National Grand Coalition (NGC) and C4C were discussing on an issue that has to do with global threat on economies of developed countries, the SLPP made no contribution.

The Leader of Government Business, Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis alluded to observation made by Hon. Paul Sam. He noted that as lawmakers belonging to the ruling party, they have no reason to be reminded of what is expected from them.

Hon. Tunis described the lackadaisical attitude of the SLPP MPs as a clear manifestation of irresponsibility. He encouraged MPs to start naming and shaming SLPP MPs who are in the habit of leaving the well of Parliament for side attractions which may not have any direct dealing with Order Paper of the day.

Hon. Tunis indicated that Parliament has summoned the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Finance and Local Government and the Bank Governor with a view to disclose to Parliament and by extension to the people of Sierra Leone about their level of preparedness with respect to the deadly Corona Virus Disease (COVID 19).

He further described the lethargic attitude of SLPP MPs as a big disgrace to Government and constituents they are representing.
