Timber Fraudster Grabs Le 200M Bail
Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 4, on 3rd March 2020 granted bail to one 26 year old businessman, Ishmael Koroma for alleged fraudulent conversion.
The bail conditions set were one hundred million Leones (Le 100M) and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must produce a national identity card or voters ID card. One of the sureties must produce a title deed or a business certificate or an employment letter from a renowned institution.
The defendant is facing one count of fraudulent conversion contrary to section 20 (1) (1v) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the defendant, Ishmael Koroma, between the 1st February 2018 and the 29th February 2018 at Hastings Freetown, fraudulently converted to his own use and benefit certain property, that is to say 220 timber logs, which are valued at eleven thousand two hundred and fifty United States dollars ($ 11, 250), which is equivalent to one hundred and twelve million five hundred thousand Leones (Le 112, 500, 000) entrusted to him by Alimamy Suma for the purpose of safe keeping.
The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aminatu Daboh whilst the defense counsels are lawyers Kanu and MPM Lappia.
The matter was adjourned to the 17th of March 2020 for further hearing.
