Sierra Leone Citizens Wallow In Perpetual Darkness as Bio busy renewing marriage vows
Over the past one week or so, Sierra Leoneans especially those in the capital, Freetown, have been struck with perpetual power outage with everywhere in the city wallowing in complete darkness.
Sadly, despite this ugly situation which is ravaging the citizens, the President, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio and his entire cabinet, who have a duty to address the plight of the citizens, are seen to be busy with renewal of marriage vows between the president and the first lady while the rest of the citizens continue to suffer.
The marriage between Bio and Fatima particularly at a time when the country is going through the worst economic situation since independence , according to many Sierra Leoneans, is a complete show of irresponsibility on the part of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) led government who many believe, has now demonstrated a complete insensitivity to the suffering of its people.
Even more disturbing is the fact that the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), the institution charged with the responsibility of supplying electricity has with impunity remained silent on this whole power outage saga.
The electricity situation in the country for the past one week or so, which now adds to the many economic problems citizens are faced with, has left many wondering as to where the New Direction Government is really taking Sierra Leone?
It is no gainsaying that Sierra Leoneans are no longer accustomed to power outage since the previous All Peoples Congress (APC) led government changed the nomenclature of Freetown being the darkest city in the world.
Sadly, it seems the SLPP led government is hell bent on reversing all the gains made by the APC government as things continue to sprint backward under it watch.
Whilst campaigning during the March, 2018 elections, the SLPP was all over the place condemning the development strides of the APC led government calling them cosmetics.
Fast forward in 2020 after almost two years of its rule, the SLPP could not even maintain the ‘’cosmetic developments’’ of the former regime talk less of improving them as everything continues to be deteriorating at pace faster than the Jamaican Sprinter, Usain Bolt.
With the electricity situation the latest to add to the many things speedily deteriorating under the New Direction Government despite the huge billions of Leones being poured on the sector, many now hold the view that the SLPP has been a complete disappointment to the citizens who voted for it in the March, 2018 election to improve their lives and wellbeing.
And to make matters even worse, the SLPP rather than focusing on the herculean task of addressing the economic crunch the country is faced with, now has turned its attention to renewing marriage vows between the President and the First Lady; an action that has been regarded as an insult to citizens who now finds it very difficult to put on their tables.
