In Sierra Leone: The Many Faces of RDC Ghana

The recent events unfolding around the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) led government’s procurement of fifty city school buses which were procured for the Free and Quality Education program has now left many Sierra Leoneans wondering as to who RDC Ghana really is and what specific role did the company play in the procurement of the said buses.

The name RDC Ghana only came to the spotlight in the early days of the SLPP’s rein when the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Kabineh Kallon and the then Chairman of the National Commission for Privatization (NCP), Napoleon Koroma, publicized an MOU they signed with the company regarding the procurement of 200 buses.

It was expected that RDC will provide the 200 Golden Dragon Buses for Sierra Leone after having hoodwinked the Sierra Leone Government into believing that it is the sole agent of Golden Dragon in West Africa.

Since that MOU which was signed in August of 2018, the company has not been able to provide the said buses which leave Sierra Leoneans doubting as to whether it in fact has the capacity to actually procure the buses in question.

In a strange twist of events, RDC, which has not been able to live up to the MOU it signed with the Government of Sierra Leone for the procurement of the 200 buses, with the alleged help of some top bras within the government and Transport Ministry, eventually saw itself involved in the procurement of the 50 School Buses, a contract that was awarded to a local investor.

It’s involvement in the 50 buses contract, according to sources, is to ensure that some top brass within the government get their kickbacks in the said contract.

In another twist, this medium is possession of some court documents in which RDC sued the Alie Abess Transport, the contractor of the 50 buses over payment issues regarding the buses.

However, this medium intends to unearth how RDC got involved in the procurement of 50 buses even though the contract was awarded to Alie Abess Transport.

In our next edition, this medium will bring out details of what transpired in the said contract with specific reference to the court documents indicating how the contract went and what role did Alie Abess, RDC and Golden Dragon play in the whole contract.

Meanwhile, this medium’s efforts to reach RDC Ghana proved abortive as there was no representative of the company available to respond to the issues raised as at press time. However, this medium is affording RDC the right to reply anytime one is available to do so.
