APC Relies on the 1995 Constitution
The Head of Special Taskforce for the All Peoples Congress (APC), former Councilor Abu Yankra for Ward 374 now Ward 424 at Mabala Community in Freetown has stated that although the blocking of the proposed convention was a big slap to the party but majority of members relied on the 1995 constitution.
The two terms Councilor who was responding to media interview in Port Loko on Saturday, 11th January, 2020 said the role of the Special Taskforce is to resist or retaliate any external aggression drastically.
The former Councilor explained that a senior Police officer attached at the Port Loko Division, ASP Ballay confirmed that the presence of the Taskforce Marshalls lessen security burden to the Police.
He therefore encouraged members of the party to exercise patience because he said, politics is playing to higher height, adding that as Taskforce Commander, he was happy that no complain of wounding, harassment or stealing made to the police. He maintained that the National Reformation Movement (NRM) that took the party to court did so to their own detriment because the APC will definitely forge ahead.
He said members of the NRM were educated by the party to ensure it protection but amazingly, they have become hooligans and turned against the party. He maintained that the presence of NRM moved the APC to change major clauses in the constitution as a means of hearing to their voices.
He discussed that the party spent millions of Leones to organize the event, adding that the whole state of affairs was undermined by party undercurrent. He said NRM has been used by politicians for self interest and affirmed that the APC had no intention to take anybody to court.
The Taskforce Commander frankly stated that any law abiding citizens should trust the judiciary as an arm of Government and frankly stated that if the new constitution fails, the party would have no option but to revert to the 1995 constitution.
The former Councilor discussed that the APC is not happy the over the manner it lost the 2018 election and concluded that while heads of the party are trying to strengthen unification, others are distracting.
