No one can destroy APC Ernest Bai Koroma Assures Party Supporters
Demonstrating peace, stability and quality leadership after the High Court of Sierra Leone slammed an interim Injunction, former President Ernest Bai Koroma encouraged thousands of supporters who were eager to listen to his speech that they should remain law abiding as the high turnout of party sympathizers to the proposed convention was a clear sign that the All Peoples Congress (APC) is stronger than ever.
Ex-President Koroma was talking to executive and ordinary members of the party at the Bai Bureh Hall, Port Loko District in Port Loko Town during a press conference held on Saturday, 11th January, 2020 to explain to Journalists the position of the party after the High Court injunction tendered by the National Reformation Movement (NRM).
“We have proved to the world that APC is democratic, law abiding and respect the rule of law,” he told supporters and advanced that as past President his responsibility is to preach peace locally and internationally, and stressed on the important for us as a nation to encourage peaceful co-existent. “National cohesion should be key to move the country forward,” he stated and mentioned that only peace and democracy could bring development in the country.
Thanking members for their effort to attend the proposed convention, former President Koroma said they have gone through difficulties and challenging moments to sustain the party adding that nobody has the audacity to destroy the APC.
He thanked members of the legal team in the APC to have done great job and the Diaspora for strengthening the unit after the 2018 election. Ex-President Koroma also gratified the national executive for the strength they have shown. “Even if I leave the party will remain stronger and united,” he assured.
At this stage, supporters in tearing mood replied him that “No President Koroma you must stay,”.
The loyal, royal, brave and loving National Chairman and Leader of the party stated that when a party is in opposition, the Members of Parliament are there to advocate for them and further discussed that the APC MPs are still peaceful despite the struggle they going through.
“We have complied with the injunction”, Ex-President Koroma informed the gathering and encouraged them to not lose hope as nobody has the power to distract the party. He bragged that the APC will continue to be functional and highlighted that the changing of the constitution was for everybody to enjoy equal right But, President Koroma said the APC will continue with the 1995 constitution as we come across too many huddles. He encouraged members to continue unifying the party and stressed on the important to address the issue of choosing flagbearer for 2023 Presidential election. “The issue of electing or selecting flagbearer should not bring war within the party,” he told party members and warned party officials to stop associating themselves with one aspirant to the other.
“We that are entrusted with the leadership of the party should be neutral in running our affairs,’ the former President told stalwarts and called on members to encourage each other as a family.
He advised presidential aspirants to avoid campism so that the issue of division would be prevented and preached aspirants to believe that only God can give power but not the aspiration of man.
He entreated members to open up as a family and go with all energy to win the 2023 election adding that the party will open doors for more people to come and work as a family not for selfish interest.
He said the grassroots supporters should not be confused o distracted because according to him, they are more determined and stronger than members of the executive.
“I have served Sierra Leone for two consecutive uninterrupted two terms and I don’t want confusion in the country because Government is continuity,” and continued that we are all Sierra Leoneans with equal rights and discussed the need to give everybody within the party equal rights and opportunity.
Ex-President Koroma concluded that the party is not only together or remain stronger but will take a deserving position.
In his presentation, the National Secretary General for the APC, Alhaji Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh who has been described as the ensychopedia of the party thanked all participants from across the 16 districts to the all important occasion.
He said the press conference was to abreast their membership on the recent development.
Lawyer Warrah Serry Kamal, a member of the APC Legal Team explained to the gathering that the injunction was to stop the proposed convention from carrying on adding that the APC is law abiding and not afraid of anything.
She lamented that the legal team is committed to serve the party and stand to prevail the truth. She described the injunction as temporal and would last for seven (7) days. “We will tell the court on Friday, January 17th, 2020 to throw the matter out,”. She concluded by stating that they are with the people and ready to defend the party at any given time.
In his brief statement, lawyer Africanus Sesay who is also a senior member of the APC Legal Team said they are not afraid of anything as far as the law concerns. “We believe in the law,” lawyer Sesay told Journalists and advised members to wait for the law to take its course.
He described the APC as a forward looking party as of today, tomorrow and forever.
