Rokel Commercial Bank Sierra Leone cleans Regent Village

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) Sierra Leone Limited has joined the Regent community to keep the area clean an divert unnecessary spread of common diseases.

The cleaning exercise, which took place on Saturday 7th December, 2019, attracted senior and junior members of RCB.

Responding to an on the spot interview with this journalists, the Managing Director for RCB, Dr. Walton Gilpin said the move as a financial institution was to complement Government efforts in developing the country, adding that their involvement in the cleaning activity would increase confidence among people that bankers are not only there to sit under air condition or drive expensive vehicles but they also take part in community development activities.

He discussed on the importance for them as a banking institution to help Government so that when our brothers and sisters are coming from overseas, they would realize that we are serious as a nation to maintain proper sanitation. He emphasized that they decided to take the cleaning to Regent because it is a corner and they wanted to create big impact in that community and mentioned that they wanted Regentonians to know that RCB is part of them.

He maintained that last year December they clean Cottage Hospital in the Eastern part of Freetown. “In fact that is why we took the cleaning this year to Regent village so that our presence could be felt there”, he said and continued that the cleaning exercise is part of their CSR and desire to develop financial inclusion so that customers would manage their finances very well.

Dr. Gilpin therefore urges all and sundry to bank with RCB in order not to be left out in the financial inclusion while also assuring the Regent community for more opportunities and described RCB as a family bank.

In 2020, Dr. Gilpin said they will be looking for more creativity for customers to have access to their money on timely basis across the country and mentioned that people will grow financially if the needed facility is available.

In his statement, Deputy Managing Director (DMD), Mr. Borbor described customers as their most valuable assets and deliberated on the importance of interacting with people to know much better about the operations of the institution.

“We don’t have any branch yet here but we know our customers are found everywhere,” he told newsmen and continued that the cleaning exercise is not for profit making but part of their CSR. He reiterated that the management of RCB is well structured with dynamic MD.

He pointed out that they are able to reach this peak because they are united, willing and easy to organize, adding that as a Salone man bank, they believe in the same goal.

He advanced that they wanted to take RCB to another level by 2020 through digitalizing their operations.

Mr. Borbor thanked customers for the love they have demonstrated to the bank and stressed that they wanted to be the number one banking institution in Sierra Leone.

The Business Centre Director for RCB, Prince Williams described the ongoing cleaning exercise in the country as a key agenda in the New Direction Government. He elaborated that they moved the cleaning to the west end because he said, cleanliness is next to Godliness and further discussed that they were there to celebrate with the Regent people.

He said RCB does not only engage in cleaning exercise but they also do social work and many other outreach programs and wishes all Sierra Leoneans a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.

One of the community representatives expressed happiness for the cleaning exercise and applauded RCB as the first and only big institution to have done such a big job to save lives in that part of the country.

She said there are big organizations and stakeholders at Regent Village but nobody has ever taken such venture to clean the community except RCB.

She described RCB move to clean their community as very important because, according to her, they would inspire other organizations and stakeholders to join the drive.

She expressed hope and prayed that the community will find space for RCB to establish an outlet at the Regent community because according to her, they have many constraints of banking.

Some of the senior staff of RCB responded they have listened to the cry of the people of Regent and assured that RCB will be the first to work with that community.
