Local Borehole Driller Brings Solution to Water Shortage in Rural Community
As the dry season at the corner and water shortage is presently hitting rural community, local manual driller of Boreholes, Mr. Mohamed Lamin Turay has introduced a simple technology to help curtail the dilemma.
The beneficiaries have joined Mr. Turay to call on Government through the Ministry of Water Resources to boost the young technician so that the issue of water scarcity during the dries would be minimised and sustained.
Speaking to this medium Mr. Turay said if he accessed Government support, he would be able to abolish the open cast well system because according to him, it is dangerous for children who are often sent by their parents to fetch water.
He further discussed that the water extracted from the open cast well is not purified because it does not go through filtration while he said, the manual drilling system which he is doing is safer for the fact that only a PVC Pipe manually drilled in to deep layers in the soil while the open cast well made up of a big and deep round hole.
Mr. Turay lamented that he learnt the profession for the purpose of not only providing abundant water which will never dry even in the middle of the dries but to save life with pure and safe drinking water, unlike the open cast well system which he said, it’s sometimes produced unpleasant odour.
He said the good thing about the local manual drilling system, whenever there is a breakdown; he is always available with his well-trained members of his team to do any maintenance.
Mr. Turay highlighted that through his local manual technology, he has trained many willing young people in various skills which they are now implementing to get their daily sustenance and called young people who think they have gone astray to join him in his drive to create job opportunity and human capital development. Mr. Turay concluded that the manual drilling system of boreholes is not only means for people in the rural area but it could also be dug for dwellers in big towns and cities.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Kadiatu Mansaray prayed that Government give helping hand to Mr. Turay whom she described as a young man with big idea to sustain his work adding that if not for his intervention the issue of water shortage should have worsen for them in the rural area where she said, some people get impure water from streams and running water for the purpose of drinking and domestic use.
