7 Months No Salary – Blind School Workers Frustrated

This medium has been reliably informed that workers of the Milton Margai School for the Blind at Wilkinson Road in Freetown have gone for seven (7) months now without salary, a situation that has financially embarrassed and frustrated them.

This information was confirmed by the management of the school. Management attributed the ugly situation that government has not been paying subvention to the school for several months now and the school lacks the economic might to pay the disgruntled workers.

According to the discontented workers, the over-delayed payment of their salaries has dire consequences on them and their families who have been stranded for months now.

“We pay transport to and from work on a daily basis but cannot be paid salaries for seven months now, how are going to continue working and surviving?”

The disgruntled workers called on the Ernest Bai Koroma-led APC government to intervene and ensure the payment of their seven months salaries.

“We are paying transportation every blessed day to cook for these disabled children but less attention is paid to us in terms of taking care of our welfare”. One of the disadvantaged workers who preferred anonymity told this medium adding that as a result of such negligence by concerned authorities, they find it very difficult to take care of their home affairs including the feeding and payment of school fees for their children.

When asked if they have any plan to leave their jobs, the poor workers responded that they could not afford to abandoned their work because they are mothers and fathers who have great passion to offer humanitarian assistance for those vulnerable children who couldn’t live a happy life without the help of abled people .

In that regard therefore, they called on the school management, Government and humanitarian organizations to see reason why they should come to their aid as they have patient for close to eight months now without salary.

Speaking to the school management confirmed that indeed, workers had gone without salary for good seven (7) months as a result of the lack of subventions from Government and other sources.
