Liberia Joins Sierra Leone in the Ebola Fight, Donates 3 Giant Ambulances and PPEs

Freetown, Jan. 21, 015 (MOHS) – Member of Parliament and Team Leader of the Liberian Medical Team, Hon. Making the presentation of the three Ambulances to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on behalf of the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the government of Liberia at the Youyi Building compound in Freetown, Hon. Saah Hardy Joseph described the mission as the first Liberia Ebola Response Team to be deployed by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.

The Team he said, is divided into two, and when deployed will be working 24 hours round the clock with a view to achieving the mission’s desired goal in their collective efforts to contain the epidemic in the country.

He noted the good relationship between Sierra Leone and Liberia, disclosing that as once a Refugee in Sierra Leone for a period of 15 years, he is indebted to the warm reception and hospitality accorded him during his stay, and on behalf of the team pledged their commitment and solidarity in the fight to eliminate the disease in the three sister countries.

Responding, Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation 1, Mr. Foday Sawi reiterated the commitment of President Koroma, the government and partners in the fight against the disease. The Deputy Minister on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone thanked the Leadership of the Liberian government for the gesture and prompt arrival.

Mr. Sawi said the donation came at a critical time fighting the violent Ebola virus disease, and assured the team which comprised contact Tracer, Ambulance Technicians and Trainers, that the collaboration with their professional colleagues would yield the expected dividend that embraces the existing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo noted that the outbreak in the three countries, Liberia Guinea and Sierra Leone is a tripartite fight that needs collective efforts for obvious reason, hoping that the concerted collaboration in all three countries would totally end the pandemic.

He assured the team of his support and looks forward to their successful cooperation and implementation of their phases One, Two, and Three approach in addressing the current status of the epidemic.

The Chief Medical Officer noting the trend of the current status of the epidemic has deployed the team to work in the Port Loko district.

The team during their stay will train and equip Local Emergency Health Response Team on infectious and non-infectious cases as part of their sub-regional partnership frame work.
