CPS to observe International Peace Day
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) network in Sierra Leone with funding from Bread for the World is planning to undertake outreach programmes in Kenema on September 5, Bo on September 6, Makeni on September 13, and Freetown on September 20, in commemoration of the International Peace Day which falls on September 21. The theme for this year’s observance is, “Peace at home.”
In an interview with this paper, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Sierra Leone Adult Literacy Association (SLADEA), Mr. Bamike Williams, said as partners, they will join the CPS to commemorate the day.
He revealed that they will engage the Freetown Players International to stage a concert on September 20 in order to highlight the importance of peace and sanity in the country.
He said his association, being interested in peace-making as instrument of development, would ensure that people are sensitized on the need for peace and development like the past occasions to which they immensely contributed.
On the issue of peace, Mr. Bamike Williams, expressed his satisfaction over the Konkoroma Radio Drama which he said has created positive impact on the minds of the people as it serves as a medium of sensitization against all forms of violence in the country.
He further described this radio drama as a splendid conception that was useful in terms of peace during the previous elections in Sierra Leone.
