Biography of the great Rumpel

One of Sierra Leone’s greatest entertainment Idols, Franklyn Williams, popularly known as ‘Rumpel’ in an exclusive interview with this reporter, on August 19, 2013 revealed his plans to continue to thrill his audience in the entertainment world.

Rumpel is widely known in the country as a Comedian, Actor and Musician.

The celebrity told the New Citizen entertainment that he was born and raised in Soja Street, Freetown and acquired primary education at the Buxton Municipal Primary at Charles Street. He said upon completion, he later entered the Sierra Leone Grammar School for secondary education.

After he lost his parents in the 1970s, the celebrity further lamented that his three brothers also died, a situation which made life very difficult for him and his only sister. He said he had to sell Kerosene in the street to eke a living yet having in mind that there is no more close relatives to run to when they were in need or in distress.

Rumpel further revealed that he is a Christian by religion and attends the Prayer Tabernacle Church at Ferry Road, Aberdeen in Freetown.

He noted that though single, his two sons, Frank and Franklyn Williams appreciate his career as a comedian, musician and an actor and are very proud of him.

In the entertainment industry, Rumpel said he started standing and drama comedy in the 1990s, disclosing that he has won medals as best comedian at the Universal radio jamboree and also as best standing comedian at Radio Democracy.

 “I love music and I sing songs of real life” these were the exact words of Rumpel, the most popular comedy musician who has produced two albums. His first album titled ‘Palampo’ he did at the Stressing Studio in 2004 contains eight songs including the hit song of that year Palampo, pul u foot, among others and later his second album   “Omolay Waka” with nine songs.

The country’s leading musical comedian spoke about plans for the release of another album he will title “Satan craise tay tay e know Jesus e injunction,” revealing that it will soon hit the market with a melodrama. He said the future album will give out twenty six songs he has made in three albums.

He expressed his dissatisfaction over piracy in the entertainment industry especially, the music industry, an act he described as hindrance to the development of the industry accounting for the low sales of albums.
