Sierra Leone Association of Artists & Musicians Kicks Off in London, UK

On January 23, 2013 members of the entertainment industry in London ranging from DJ’s, musicians, Filmmakers, converged at the Legacy Restaurant at 53 Camberwell Rd, SE London, an African restaurant that serves the community;  to meet with Sierra Leone Association of Artists & Musicians (SLAAM) USA founder Giileh Kebbie Scholz.  The gathering ranged from musicians to DJ’s, Promoters, and Filmmakers along with two of SLAAM USA 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award winners for music Collins Pratt and Bonnie Mac.  Giileh encouraged them to embrace the vision and goals of SLAAM for the Industry in UK and this was emphasized by Bonnie Mac as he explained the musical journey he and his colleagues had been on without the backing of an organization like SLAAM.  The meeting was concluded with an agreed upon date of February 13 2013 at 6pm prompt, where decisions would be made for an interim leadership to be put in place location to be announced. SLAAM UK is appealing to all in the industry in UK to attend this meeting and be a part of something different that will empower the industry as a whole. DJ, Promoters, Producers, Actors, Actresses, Musicians, Filmmakers, Radio  talk personalities etc.

Vicky Fornah who recently received SLAAM 2012 recognition award for Gospel is set to make a comeback on March 2, 2013 as she releases another chart breaking album entitled “NEXT LEVEL” an album that is set to send a message of hope and encouragement to people who have a dream. As a legend she has indeed made her mark in the industry. This event takes place at the prestigious Hampton Conference Center, Capitol Heights, MD. Some of gospels best are expected to be in attendance, such as Millicent Rhodes, Rebecca Arthur, many more.

The long awaited album release of SLAAM Public Relations Officer, who is also the President of African Radio Online – Salone, Singer and Rapper Edward Kargbo aka (Bizo The Mayor) is set to take place in April 2013. He is very popular for his song “Salone Man Unite” which was song by all industry professionals present on Dec 8 2012 at SLAAM honors award. The album gives a message of love, unity and peace, as a rapper Edward gives a clean cut message with no vulgarity which makes Sierra Leoneans proud.

SLAAM Founder and President of the Sierra Leone Association of Artists and Musicians lost her Mom,  Mrs. Mabel Kebbie,  in London. Giileh our hearts go out to you and your family during these troubled times. May Her Soul Rest In Peace (RIP)

The first Sierra Leone Krio Comedy Film, filmed on location in Maryland USA. Written, Produced and Directed by David Vandy.  Coming this April, come and enjoy this first Sierra Leone scary comedy film in krio.

I still remember how difficult it was for me and a few of my friends to get drivers to allow us in their taxis after dark, for fear one of us was THE yellow woman. Going back home was even more hilarious as grown men would run at the sight of us. LOL”

On February 2nd, 2013 One of SLAAM Board of Directors and recipient of  the Fine Art Recognition Award – Richmond Garrick held a very successful Art Exhibition at Williamboro Library in NJ’s. I was attended by people from all works of life ranging from Sierra Leoneans, Mr. Ralph Hunter – The president of The African American Heritage Museum, Scott Bowing – Assistant Principal of Williams Town Height School, D. Spencer – (fed Govt ) representative from Schomburg Ctr in NY (ctr for Africa American Culture in NY) Rep from Noyes Museum, faculty members from Dvry and Rutgers University all converged at Williamborugh Library’s Art Gallery

Richmond’s style of painting is oil, applied in a thick manner to evoke the emotions of his objects.  An artist who has traveled the globe and whose work has been showcased in the White House Museum. Those in attendance where heard commenting about the deepness of emotions that where in the gallery.
