Calaba Town Snubs Maada Bio
Residents of Calaba Town, Constituency 96 on Saturday 15th September 2012 boycotted a proposed meeting with the Presidential flagbearer for the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Julius Maada Bio (in photo). After the SLPP candidate’s late attendance to officially, endorse the opposition parliamentary candidate for the 17th November Multi elections, Chairman for Main Bowl youth organization at Calaba Town, Mohamed Conteh, told this press that their decision to snub the SLPP presidential flagbearer was as a result of the disrespect he demonstrated.
According to Mohamed Conteh, the SLPP flagbearer attended the planned ceremony very late in the evening after many residents of Constituency 96 had already abandoned the meeting area. Conteh continued that the boycott progressed well after they also realized that Julius Maada Bio is not a very good choice for that all important position of national trust.
Another resident and chairperson of Constituency 96 Women’s group, Mabinty Sankoh believes that because of the neglect shown by SLPP’s Bio, especially to the grassroots, there was no alternative but to leave the meeting area and prepare themselves for another development stride.
National publicity secretary for the SLPP Hon. Tamba-Sam who was also part of the SLPP entourage apologized for their lateness and promise not to repeat it.
Before a smaller group of attendees the SLPP presidential candidate endorsed the parliamentary candidate of the SLPP late that evening.
