Netherlands moves embassy to Ghana

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands accredited to Sierra Leone and based in Senegal, Ambassador Pieter Jan Kleiweg De Zwaan, has informed the government of Sierra Leone that its Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, will be closed and relocated to Accra in Ghana.  (Photo: Ambassador Bassir receiving the document from Ambassador Kleiweg De Zwaan invher office in Dakar)

Ambassador Pieter Jan Kleiweg De Zwaan disclosed this on Friday, during a courtesy call on HE Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir at her office in down town Dakar. He said his government will be covering Sierra Leone, through their Embassy in Ghana. This he noted is as a result of some of their missions being closed in Africa.

However, he said “there would be exceptions for diplomatic applications to be processed in Senegal;” Ambassador De Zwaan added that applicants from Sierra Leone should in the interim first contact the Dutch Embassy in Senegal for enquiries on +221338490360 or Fax +221338217084 or through its web- www.nlambassadedakar.org.

According to the Ambassador, due to its diplomatic ties with Sierra Leone his government will only effect the change if the requested permission and agreement is granted for the Dutch Ambassador in Accra to act accordingly.

Thanking her counterpart for the courtesy call and what she described as strengthening the existing diplomatic and bilateral ties between the two countries, Ambassador Bassir pleaded that during the transition period (until a reply is received from the Government of Sierra Leone) visas for Sierra Leoneans be still processed in Senegal.

She informed Ambassador De Zwaan of President Ernest Bai Koroma’s developmental strides back home, since assuming office and that our coming elections in November will be free, fair and peaceful.

Both Ambassadors promised to work towards building on the already existing relationship between their countries.
