Chinese Embassy donates to SLAJ

Freetown – The National Secretariat of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists wishes to inform its members and the general public that it has received a donation of two desktop computers, two printers, two Nokia mobile phones and a carton of 100 black T-shirts from the Chinese Ambassador in Freetown, Kuang Weilin.

The donation was made to the association on Wednesday 29 August 2012, during a visit to the embassy by the SLAJ National Executive.

SLAJ President, Umaru Fofana briefed the Ambassador about the current status of the association, especially with plans for the coverage of the November elections. He said one of the major concerns in coverage of the elections was the safety and security of journalists. In this light, he said the association was seeking support to provide easily identifiable PRESS jackets for all journalists who would be deployed to cover the electoral process throughout the country.

Chinese Ambassador, Kuang Weilin was pleased with the development of SLAJ over the years. He said the Embassy was always willing to play its own role in supporting the association and to also contribute to the development of the country.

He hoped the donation would go a long way to enhance the effectiveness of the National Executive and the association in general.
