Police in shady land deals at Jui

Land feud has erupted in the east outskirts of Jui in the Western Rural area of Freetown between police officers and church authorities.

The land in question according to sources was the one pegged for retired police personnel who throughout their working services are unable to buy land and build houses on their own.

It is understood that one Sgt. James commonly known as Sgt Major attached at the Jui Police Station entered into an unholy deal with some members of a Church (name withheld for now) situated at Edward Street in Freetown. The church is said to be constrained of accommodation and is currently keeping service in one of the schools around the Edward Street area.

Some community members including a cross section of police personnel, the supposed beneficiaries of the land, got wind of the deal and resorted into protesting against the idea of selling their beneficed land property.

Sgt. James is quoted as saying that he is working under the instructions of OSD boss, AIG Julius and the Southern Region police command AIG Kofi and AIG Mustapha.

When this reporter cross-checked the issue with AIG Kofi he said he had no such deals of land and has never instructed any police officer to sell or plot land for sale to any individual or church. He said selling land is the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Lands and not the police. The same answer goes for AIG Mustapha.

Meanwhile a blood bath cloud is hanging on the said land as the beneficiaries are threatening not to lose it all.

It is understood that the church has got the understanding that the said land under the deal is not genuinely acquired and are however asking for a refund of their cash.
