Sierra Leone Tourism Ministry plans to host cultural festival in Freetown

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Victoria-Saidu Kamara (in photo), said  the cabinet on Monday, approved mega funds for the hosting of the first National Cultural Festival event in Freetown.

She said the theme for the festival will be CELEBRATING OUR CULTURAL DIVERSITY which will help consolidate the peace and non violence that will reignite the passion for Sierra Leone’s culture. She said the festival will bring all districts together in Freetown to showcase their traditional talent.

Director of Culture at the Ministry of  Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Foday Jalloh, said the festival will run from April 19 to April 23rd with the inaugural ceremony held on April 19 (Sierra Leone Day of Republic) at the Miatta Conference Centre, Brookfields, and a float parade will climax the show on April 23,rd to be followed by an award night in recognition of Sierra Leoneans that have excelled in the world of art and craft.

Responding to why April for the festival, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Barba Fortune, said it was a cabinet decision to link the activities from the day of the Nation’s Republic (April 19) to the country’s independence.

The press conference was organized at the Ministry’s conference room King Harman Road, Brookfield.
