Four to raise funds for Salone Children
In a bid to address the plights faced by street children and children diagnosed with various ailments in the country, a humanitarian group called “Toure de Leone” has commenced a five day cycling race to raise funds for one of HANCI’s UK partners Street Child of Sierra Leone {SCoSL} and the Magbenteh Hospital in Makeni. The fund will be used to address the predicaments of the above categories of vulnerable children in the country.
Speaking to this medium, one of the cyclists, Darren, revealed that on the 9th -13th March, 2012 five of them, all working for African Minerals, will be embarking on the 320 Kilometers equivalent to 200 miles cycling race using some of the toughest terrain in the country. The five day race commenced from Bendugu in the Tonkolili District to Freetown through Ferengbeya, Makeni, Port Loko, Pepel and down to Freetown.
“Mick, Bruce, John, Sam and I decided to embark on this activity because we want to raise money for the children of Sierra Leone in their battle against malaria, typhoid, severe malnutrition, yellow fever, and HIV. In the blistering African summer, we will face this challenge together – but we need your help. Please help us to help the children”. Darren revealed. He encourages all to watch this race at http://youtu.be/Q2DnT5VHas and donate at: http:uk.virginmoneygiviny.com/Toure-de-Leone.
“It is vital to know that only four of us have commenced this race and this is because one of us is heinously sick and is expected to be flown out of the country,” Darren expressed with passion.
Medical reports all over the world have revealed that malaria is the world’s biggest killer ailment and in Africa it is compounded by typhoid, severe malnutrition, yellow fever and HIV. For this reason, the fight against these ailments can only be victorious if all effectively complement the work of humanitarians likes these men.
