Sierra Leone’s First Lady off to Australia

Speaking, on the purpose and essence of the visit to the Information Attaché at the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Senegal during her six hour transit, Mrs. Sia Koroma said the forum is an opportunity for community  members and other stakeholders to discuss among other issues, the dual significance of the Australian and Sierra Leonean culture, the current political and economic development in Sierra Leone, problems affecting Sierra Leonean women in Australia, the role of women in the nation building process in Sierra Leone and how the diaspora could assist.

According to the First Lady, as Ambassadors of Sierra Leone they are going to show face to the country, discuss women issues, education, poverty alleviation and among others the empowerment of women.

“It should however be noted” she observed “that the importance of the visit to the expatriate community cannot be over emphasized as many have family living in Sierra Leone or in refugee camps on the borders”

Giving more light on the visit, Personal Assistant to the First Lady Mrs. Musu Matturi said the Women’s Community is especially interested in discussing with Mrs. Sia Koroma and delegation, the status of women in their home country and receiving her advice on participating in Australian society as women from Sierra Leone.

According, to the President of The Women from Africa Organization Mdm. Olivia Aminata Boateng, the success of the forum will contribute to further strengthen Sierra Leone and Australia’s ties.

The First Lady, also find time to receive in audience (courtesy call) the Ambassador of Israel to Sierra Leone based in Senegal, Ambassador Eli Ben Tura.

Ambassador Tura said Sierra Leone is a blessed country with lots of potentials and the government of Israel will continue to support the country not only medically but in divers ways as a strong contribution to what President Ernest Bai Koroma and his government has embarked on in building the country.

According to Ambassador Tura his government will help in the training of youths in middle man power and also in the training of medical staff for the four dialysis machines his government has installed at the Connaught hospital in Freetown.

Mrs Sia Koroma expressed her thanks and appreciation on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone. She noted that the machines are a passion for the country and that all will be done to maintain them.

When asked about the stability of the country and the coming elections she had this to say “Sierra Leone is very stable and the President has embarked on and done visible developments, especially in the areas of road Infrastructure, agriculture, energy, health and education. He has stood by his AGENDA for CHANGE. The people will vote in a free and fair election and would be done peacefully. The present government came in through the ballot box and will do so again”

Ambassador Eli Ben Tura promised during his tenure of office to further strengthen the bilateral ties between Israel and Sierra Leone. He is expected to present his credentials to President Ernest Bai Koroma on Thursday at State House.

Members of the delegation included, Kumba Emma Gborie, Marlon Bockarie Konteh, Valicious King, Foday Sesay and Toma Morrison.
