ABC warns parents over disorderliness

Following Professor Gbamanja Commission’s indicting of parents as causers of the alarming underperformance of their children in term of education, management of Attitudinal and Behavioral Change (ABC) Secretarial Friday 14th warned hundreds of parents to desist doing things that adversely affect the performance of pupils.

At a well attended meeting held at the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) compound in Freetown, Director of ABC, Dr. Ivan Agibola Thomas, cautioned parents to stop extending their matrimonial problems to school going children.

Dr. Thomas however described the children as future leaders and said they must be allowed rightfully make themselves role models of society by letting them acquire quality education.

He called on the parents to apportion considerable time in the monitoring of their children.

He discouraged the idea of parents giving the kids unhindered to prohibited reading and viewing materials.

The National Coordinator ABC, Mrs. Nanette Thomas, frowned at parents who pay lesser attention to dress code of their children, fail to provide them with prescribed educational tools and not collaborating with the school authorities on issues of discipline.

Madam Thomas observed however that because parents have failed to provide a better environment for their kids, the standard of education has fallen drastically.

She scolded the parents to refrain from bribing teachers to give passing marks to the kids.

“Children, ” she said “are referred to by Professor Gbamanja’s report as ‘jewel of the national crown’ must be trained up to espouse love, the spirit of sharing and hard work.

In her remark, the Principal of FSSG, Florence Davies, thanked ABC officials for making them know their responsibilities and also educating the parents of their role.
