Woman docked for Le 50 M fraud
Rosaline Mariatu Kargbo Thursday 1st was before Magistrate Johannes Wellington of Court 2 on charges of obtaining credit by fraud other than false pretence, forgery and uttering forged document contrary to section 13(1) of the debtors Act 1869, section 4(1) of the forgery Act of 1913 and section 6(1) of the forgery Act 1913 respectively.
In the particulars of offence it was alleged that the accused on Tuesday 16th August 2011, at Access Bank Sierra Leone Limited, at No. 30 Siaka Steven Street in the Freetown Judicial District, in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone incurred debt to Bockarie Bayoh an employee of Access Bank Sierra Leone Limited, obtained on credit the sum of $8,500 which in equivalent is Le 37.74M from the said Bockarie Bayoh.
That the accused forged a certain document- to wit- one Access Bank withdrawal slip with S/No. 009338 dated 16th August 2011 having face value of Le37.74 in account of one Jonathan Godwin purported to have been prepared and signed by the said Jonathan Godwin.
And in count three it was stated that the accused with intent to defraud uttered a certain forged document to wit one Access Bank withdrawal slip dated 16th August 2011 with face value of Le37.74 knowing same to be forged.
Defence Lawyer Pious Sesay however applied for bail on grounds that the accused is a responsible citizen and would neither jump bail nor interfere with the prosecution witnesses.
Police prosecutor Inspector A.F. Heals objected to bail, stating that the accused is a flight risk and that there are all possibilities she will tamper with prosecution witnesses.
While giving his ruling, Magistrate Wellington ruled against the objection put forward by the prosecution and granted bail to the accused in the sum of Le50M with two sureties to be approved by the Consultant Master and Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to September 13.
