41 years old Mariatu Sesay, residing at Hill Top community, New England, Freetown was beaten to near death on 16th Wednesday September 2009, one Ibrahim Sheriff Police report says.

According to the Station officer at New England Station Police Station S.O. Sergeant Hassan around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, a group of young men came into the station with an alleged suspect name Ibrahim Sheriff alleging that he had beaten a woman identified as Mariatu to the point of death on the pretext of being his girlfriend. The boys, according to Hassan, were accompanied by the community youth leader Manso Kamara who revealed that despite the series of advice given to Ibrahim Sheriff, he had always insisted on beating the woman to death for petty differences.

Eye witnesses on the scene of the incident said that the whole community came around on that morning to restrain the man from beating the girlfriend but he insisted on beating her, and goes scot free. It was this statement that galvanized the youths of the area to take him to the police station together with the half dead Marriatu.

Sergeant Hassan told Sierra Express that due to the nasty miserable condition of the woman; she was immediately taken to hospital for emergency treatment as according to him; the woman had already fainted and had a lot of bruises and heavy wounds on her.

Kadiatu; a relative of the battered woman explained that Sheriff had been in the habit of beating her sister in a despicable manner that always resulted in the hospitalization; and that he has always refused to quiet the relation on the grounds that he had spent a lot of money on Mariatu.  Family members Sierra Express spoke to have vowed to press charges against Sheriff; praying that their sister recovers from her present condition.
