We are becoming a stable political nature Nation…President Koroma

Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma in his statement at the European Development Day in response to the global economic downtown told his counterpart that Sierra Leone is becoming a stable, politically mature nation.

Advancing his facts, the President noted that Sierra Leone as a country has met International standards in many ways, noting that he took over power in 2007 through a successful transition of government without any large scale violence after a successful election. The President said through political stability the citizens of Sierra Leone have had the ability to hold government accountable in public parlance and governance. Expressing his plan to transform the country’s economy as set out in his agenda for change which focuses on agriculture, energy, infrastructure and human development, president Koroma stated that the long quailed Bumbuna Dam has been completed providing clean, affordable and sustainable hydro electricity to Freetown and the surrounding area. In the area of agriculture he stated over three times more tractors, power tillers and combine harvesters have been procured to enhance food security.

He noted that it is in recognition of his government’s effort; the African Union/NEPAD awarded Sierra Leone Champion of Agriculture in Africa. At the end of his statement President Koroma spoke of the untapped opportunities of investment in the country of which many will be showcased to private investors at Sierra Leone’s first International Trade and Investment Forum in London November this year.

According to the president opportunities that will be showcase include Africa’s best natural harbor providing access to a regional market of 30million consumers, 5.4 million hectares of rich arable land of which only 11% is under cultivation, total hydro potential estimated at 1200mw of which less than 5% is currently harnessed, 400km of virgin white sand beach waiting to be developed for tourism.
